The German beer boot, or Bierstiefel, is a boot-shaped glass that's a popular part of Oktoberfest traditions. The tradition may have originated with a Prussian general who promised his troops he would drink beer from his own boot if they won a battle. After the victory, he had a glassblower make a boot-shaped glass to avoid drinking from his dirty boot. The glass version may have become more popular than the real boot, and eventually became part of Oktoberfest celebrations.
